Watch: Cute first-graders wish for snow day

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- It's every kid's winter wish: Snow day!

First-graders at St. Clare's School in Great Kills, decided to take no chances though.

Watch this cute video being widely viewed and shared on Facebook, that shows each child taking turns ringing the class "snow bell" while the teacher plays Michael Buble's version of "Let It Snow" in the background.

The kids got their wish. All New York City public schools, as well as Staten Island Catholic schools, high schools private schools, and the borough's three colleges, are closed Thursday.

The latest forecast for the New York City area is 10 to 14 inches of wet, heavy snow in what the National Weather Service is calling a "powerful winter storm."

Snow began falling around 4:30 a.m. Up to a foot of white powder is expected to eventually blanket Staten Island, according to AccuWeather.
