STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The city Department of Education has extended the registration period for fall universal pre-K classes to Friday, March 3.
All students born in 2013 who currently live in New York City are eligible to attend free, full-day pre-K classes in September 2017.
Families must submit an application in order to receive a pre-K placement, and all applications received by the March 3 deadline should receive a seat.
The single application allows families to list up to 12 full-day pre-K programs, ranking in order of preference.
Families are able to apply in one of three ways:
- Online at nyc.gov/prek. The online application is available in 10 languages.
- Over the phone, by calling 718-935-2067. Families can access translation services over the phone in over 200 languages.
- In person at one of the DOE's Family Welcome Center on the Petrides School campus in Sunnyside.
"I encourage all families with children born in 2013 to apply for free, full-day, high-quality pre-K by March 3. It's easy to apply and this is a critical year where students will build the foundation they need to succeed in kindergarten and beyond," said Schools Chancellor Carmen Farina.
The "Pre-K for All" program is one of the hallmarks of the de Blasio administration, and Staten Island has led the city in enrollment.
