Forecast calls for 8-13 inches -- maybe higher -- on Staten Island

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- School is out tomorrow!

With weather forecasters agreeing that the city will be walloped with at least a foot of snow, Schools Chancellor Joel I. Klein preemptively announced the closure to allow parents time to plan for the day.
After-school and PSAL events will also be canceled.
"While travel conditions to school in the morning may not be difficult, the weather is expected to worsen as the day progresses, complicating dismissal," the Department of Education announced in a statement. "We are making this decision today to give parents as much time as possible to make alternative plans for tomorrow."
According to the National Weather Service -- which has issued a winter storm warning
for all five boroughs of the city, all of New Jersey and Delaware and
much of eastern Pennsylvania, Maryland and southern Connecticut -- the
city and Long Island can expect 8-13 inches of snow. The 11:13 a.m. forecast was the same as the one issued at 3 a.m.
Both AccuWeather and The Weather Channel predict that at least a foot will fall here and some broadcast outlets are forecasting as much as 18 inches can pile up.
Snow drifts can likely be measure several feet in some spots tomorrow as wind gusts of 35-45 mph are expected, creating blizzard conditions.

There was no immediate decision on parochial school closings.
