NEW YORK -- The City's Department of Education is trying to untangle alleged school credit irregularities that could leave some Bronx seniors unable to graduate.

The DOE is investigating allegations that Jane Addams High School for Academic Careers gave students credits for multiple courses when they took just one class.

The problem was first reported yesterday in the Daily News
.

According to The New York Times
, math teacher and union leader Stephen Tavano says he reported irregularities to the city.

Tavano says that some students got a chemistry credit for taking cosmetology. The school does not have a chemistry teacher.

He says some students who took an accounting class also got credit for a business mathematics course.

The Daily News also says geography credits were given for tourism classes.
