Staten Island's fair will take place on Saturday, March 28, from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at P.S. 69 in New Springville.

Staten Island, N.Y. -- To kick off the open enrollment of universal Pre-K, the Department of Education will be hosting Pre-K community fairs in each borough this weekend.

Staten Island's fair will take place on Saturday, March 28, from 12 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. at P.S. 69 in New Springville.

DOE staff will be on hand to help Islanders learn how to apply for the free, full-day Pre-K program for children born in 2011.

The application process began on March 16 with enrollment continuing until the April 25 deadline. For more information regarding the fair, call Susy Kremer at 347-453-9314 or email at skremer@schools.nyc.gov.

For the first time, families will be able to apply for pre-K in both district schools and NYC Early Education Centers through a single application unveiled last month by City schools Chancellor Carmen Farina.

During the rollout of universal Pre-K last year, the DOE enrolled more than 53,000 4-year-olds in full-day pre-K. Full-day pre-k enrollment increased 290 percent on Staten Island.
