STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- With college tuition costs hammering families, and student debt a concern for most, the College of Staten Island seems to be gaining a national reputation as one of the best-value deals in higher education.
For the second time in less than a month, the Willowbrook school scored a spot in a prestigious national listing as one America's Top Colleges.
CSI ranked 154th in the Northeast, and 433rd in the nation in Forbes magazine's annual guide to "America's Top Colleges".
Last month the college made the grade in Money Magazine's list of value colleges.
The list by business-focused Forbes showcases colleges that offer a high return-on-investment education with a focus on just one measurement: outcomes. Ranking criteria include low student debt and high graduation rates, as well as student satisfaction and career success.
"A growing number of colleges and universities are now focusing on student-consumer value over marketing prestige, making this a new age of return-on-investment education. This pivot is the result of intense public scrutiny on the substantial cost of a degree vs. long tail worth -- the very heart of Forbes definitive Top Colleges ranking, now in its eighth year," the magazine notes.
Wagner College also made the Forbes' list, with the Grymes Hill school ranking 207th among private colleges, and 113th in the Northeast.
St. John's University, which has a campus in Grymes Hill, ranked 484th in the nation, in the Forbes poll.
