STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Get ready -- get set -- to cheer on your school.
Here's the schedule and line-up for Saturday's 59th annual Catholic Youth Organization Cheerleading Competition, to take place in the gymnasium of the College of Staten Island, Willowbrook.
The Debs division, for fourth-, fifth- and sixth-graders, will kick off the competition at 9 a.m., followed by the Elementary Varsity division, for seventh- and eighth-graders, at noon. The Biddy division -- the youngest girls, from kindergarten through third grade -- will open the afternoon portion of the program at 2:30. Biddie teams will not be judged.
The high school teams will round out the day by performing their exhibition routines beginning at 6 p.m. Joining them on the floor will be the winning teams in the Debs and Varsity divisions.
Each year team coaches and captains from each of the divisions descend on the CYO's MIV Center at Mount Loretto, Pleasant Plains, where the girls draw numbers to determine the order of their team's appearance before the judges.
Here's the line-up for Saturday, as determined by the draw:
DEBS: East Division -- St. Joseph-St.Thomas, Pleasant Plains; Holy Child, Eltingville; Our Lady Queen of Peace, New Dorp; St. Charles, Oakwood. West Division -- Holy Rosary, South Beach; Our Lady Help of Christians, Tottenville; St. Clare's, Great Kills; Our Lady Star of the Sea, Huguenot; St. Adalbert's, Elm Park.
ELEMENTARY VARSITY: East Division -- Our Lady Help of Christians; St. Joseoh-St. Thomas; Our Lady Star of the Sea. West Division -- St. Charles; St. John Villa, Arrochar; Our Lady Queen of Peace; St. Clare's; St. Patrick's, Richmond.
BIDDY: East Division -- Our Lady Star of the Sea; St. Charles; St. Patrick's; St. Clare's # 2; St. Adalbert's. West Division -- Our Lady Help of Christians; Holy Child, Eltingville; St. Clare's #1, St. Rita's School, Meiers Corners.
