STATEN ISLAND -- Staten Island parents who want to learn more about the Common Core curriculum and how to understand some of the assignments their child is coming home with for homework, are invited to attend a free all-day seminar March 17, sponsored by the Staten Island Borough Office of the United Federation of Teachers (UFT).
The program, to take place at the union headquarters at 4456 Amboy Rd., Oakwood, will be broken into morning and afternoon workshops.
The morning session, from 9 to 11 a.m., will focus on English Language Assessment (ELA), while the afternoon session, from noon to 2 .p.m., will focus on math, in advance of the state standardized tests students will be taking in the spring.
The workshops are open to parents of children from kindergarten to eighth-grade who attend District 31 schools.
Breakfast and lunch will be provided.
